Caravan Ray- so where are you from , then? The line about the Brit accent was't meant to be insulting, y'know. No info on your info section on the Spintunes page, though I see you like to wear 1770's garb- I am dressing as Betsy Ross for a parade tomorrow. 6 layers of fabric including a corset and pannier hoops. 95 degree weather. Fun fun fun!
Ross- three lyricists actually. Each of us wrote our own section, The guys turning theirs in almost simultaneously. I then edited and tweaked everything to fit the same tune and created the chorus. That was the real challenge, coming up with something each character could sing equally that still fit. I love working as a team like this!

Hello, guys. For those who don't know, I make Emperor Gum. I'm British, as you can tell from the fact I'm dirty and am often the victim of LBW. Manchester United!
So yeah, I decided to stop doing song contests because I can't work fast enough to do well. However the moths pestered me for days before the contest so I entered. I spent five days working on a Punch and Judy song that just wasn't clicking, so scapped it and started over half way through.
Being slow and all I was running out of time at the end so its was kinda unpolished. The lyrics aren't clear enough, the percussion sucks, the judges mix wasn't the best and sweet Christmas were the lyrics not clear.
I think the music is decent though, sorry you didn't like it Ross. Don't worry, I'm accustomed to be knocked out in the first round. The guitars were in tune, I think its just a cheap guitar?
REVIEW TIMZ!! In album order, on second listen, arrangement is songwriting to me, music > lyrics, Snake kills Dumbledore, etc.
Caravan Ray: The Beginning Of The End -Solid rock song, vocals a little too quiet in the mix, frenetic, compact, fun, good.
Governing Dynamics - Swing Shift -Intro gives me chills, excellent progression, guitars sound especially brutal. -(Travis, regardless of how good they are, you need your songs to be energetic to win this contest)
Francis Wms. - Redundant Redunit -Wild, good groove, needs more progression.
RC - Goodbye Everybody -Smooth, good arrangement, perfect for late night driving mixtape, there's spontaneous foot tapping happening.
Mariah Mercedes - Ending(eternal) -A voice like gilded honey, good dynamics, kept the solo guitar interesting, rich lyrics.
Jailhouse Payback - Escalator -Liked the tone, liked the accordion, um...I not very good at reviews, this is just well done.
Edric Haleen - The Death Of A Meme -Edric terrifies me, he's a math teacher, music's not even his greatest skill, he just writes incredible songs about the death of God.
Felix Frost - Leaving Lyman's Liquor Store -Fascinating arangement, engaging tune, transitions are a little jarring, majestic wyvern.
Army Defense - You're Not Paid -don't like the voice echo, song drones a bit, well performed, decent progression.
Alex Boyd - The Bastard Had It Coming -ukulele slightly too loud, could use some more dynamic shifts, neat, staccato sections are a plus.
Glen Raphael - Naked -gorgeous guitar work, like the tone, one too many choruses, beautiful plumage.
Milton - Today's The Day -quirky in an interesting way, too long, guitars are a good addition but too late.
Ménage a Tune - Crowning Glory -I for one love long intros, smart concept, good rhythm, interesting chorus, needs slightly more varied arrangement.
Rats Of The Sky - Two Weeks Notice -delicious beat, the best rapping in SpinTunes has had so far, witty lyrics.
Wait What - Middle Management -musically competant, lyrics are a bit weak but I lol'd so I what do I know?
Ross Durand - I'm Lyin' -succulantno that's stupid...rich argh I used rich already, the ending completes it damnit that's stupid as well.
Look, you set out to do a thing and did a good job, alright?!
What, I've got seventeen songs left?!
"BucketHat" Bobby - On The Pogey -needs more accordion, funny, melodious, just the right length, high five.
Hudson And Day - It Worked Out -needs more lyrics, relaxing, deep, warm, ladies can sing, yo.
The Orion Sound - Praying -This is fine, just not really my thing, sorry that's useless criticism, more instruments, I guess?
Jeremy Lambright - Empty Spaces -I can barely hear the vocals but the melody line is sweet, guitars are very pretty, like it, slightly too long.
David Ritter - Graveyard -comic interlude was comedic, vocals aren't totally clear, good song, brains.
EvelBist - The Beginning Of The End -well played but I didn't like the timbre, not bright enough, competent enough.
Gorbzilla - The Last Last Day -again totally serviceable, good job ending on the verse, lacks subtlety and range.
The Boffo Yux Dudes - The Ballad Of JJR -Tolkien? No, that's JRR. Good singing, good arrangement, love the acoustic guitar especially, ghost riders!
-Trader Jack - Last Day -I just wasn't feeling this, hard to get into.
Godz Poodlz - It's a Great Day at BigMart® Today -those are sick synths, rough in a good way, yeah...yeah. Yes. Yes.
Heather Miller - Not Gonna Miss Your Face -this is the only song from this round stuck in my head, nice job, needs more instruments, woah-woah.
The Chocolate Chips - My Own Boss -this song just kinda rolls over me, needs some edge, well performed.
Dex01 - Brand New Life -vocals too loud this time, I'm digging the beat, guitars are succulently grungy, that word still doesn't work, urgh.
Dr. Lindyke - Mayan Holiday -vocals not clear enough oh you don't care about presentation, real smart concept, good song.
Zoe Gray - Say Goodbye Eight? Oh right, Pluto's not a planet anymore. Good transitions, haunting vocals, clever concept, piano's a little sparse.
Greg Hosack - I'm Gonna Go -I'm so tired...you did a good job, the chorus especially, stuff it that was succulent guitar work.

boffo yux with frickin chris cogott - The ballad of JJR: hmm, is this about hte last day of work? interesting idea, but not true.... Hey, Ross; I appreciate the review (all reviews are food for thought), but I will stand on the record saying that in our scenario it IS Judge Roberts' last day of work. Basically he's leaving town before he gets lynched, hence the "I better hit the road/ before I find myself redacted". I say this not just for your benefit but for any judges who might be...er, judging as well in case our intent was not clear. Other than that, thanks for taking the time to share your reviews (this goes for alla you mugs who do the same). Thatsa lotta songs to listen to and post thoughtful comments on!

Caravan Ray- so where are you from , then? The line about the Brit accent was't meant to be insulting, y'know. I'm from Toowoomba. Here is a popular joke in this part of the world. It may explain things: ...Dear Advice Column, I am a sailor in the Australia Navy. My parents live in Wollongong and my brother-in-law comes from London. My father and mother have been busted for drug running and they depend on my two sisters, who are prostitutes, for a living.
My only brother is serving a life sentence in jail on conviction of rape and murder, and my uncle is a High Court Judge who takes bribes. My other uncle is on trial for lighting fires in a National Park which burnt down 93 houses.
I am in love with a prostitute who solicits around the Sydney wharves. She says she loves me, but she knows nothing about my family background. We intend to marry as soon as her infections clear up. When I get out of the Navy we will open a brothel in Brisbane and my two sisters will work there to keep the business in the family.
My problem is that I want to marry this girl and have an entirely open and honest relationship with her. The burning question is whether I should tell her that I have a brother-in-law who is a Pom?

Ross - Thanks for taking the time to review the songs - and putting up the forums. It's amazing we haven't had one in a long time, so I'm hoping this will get the people participating and commenting on the songs and contest. hmm, is this about hte last day of work? interesting idea, but not true....hmm I am a big fan of topical song - but something in it needs to transcend the day - does this? Really interesting idea for a song - the style fits perfect. tough. I think I lean to the dated side on this, but I really appreciate what you were going for... D+ I did feel this was about his last day - at least before he either quits or is rode out of town on a rail... I actually pushed to go the topical route this time around. Other ideas that almost made it to tape were a UN Interpreter attempting to create strife thru his unique talents, and a Bomb Disposal expert trying to make it thru to retirement - but when Al came up with this allegorical ballad for Roberts so soon after the Health Care decision, I thought that was the story that needed to be told. We also continued the tradition of doing a double challenge in Round 1. This also should fit under Marian Call's prompt for 'Masters of Song Fu' in June. 'File a Complaint' in 3/4 time. That's why we did it as a waltz. So while I don't think it was quite as bad as you suggested ('D+?') I appreciate the comments and thoughts. And since this looks to be a kinder, gentler forum than the Nur Ein boards, I'll leave it at that, before the Tourette's kicks in....

I'm not going to review anyone's songs or anything, I just want to say that the song I have the most fun listening to this round is easily Trader Jack's. I've actively opened the album link to listen to it multiple times already. Just saying! Loved it Of course the others are excellent too!

Hey Frost, I liked your song too. Reminded me of They Might Be Giants. Hope we both make it to the next round, but I sort of doubt it.
