Fair enough - if that is what is preferred, I am happy to comply. Personally - I would much prefer an honest opinion of what people think of my songs. If you hate it (and I know from experience, many people will) - say so. That is much more valuable to me than searching for something good to say about it You may notice that my reviews were very positive about the songs I liked. In future - I shall only make comments on the songs I like if that will preserve the general good fellowship. To be honest, I don't have an issue with personal reviews. I usually try to twist it positive for SpinTunes, as opposed to the thinker skin needed in the SongFight forums, but if you have a passionate opinion on a song, let it rip. That's how you find out about a song - and what people were thinking when they wrote it, and how people interpret what you wrote. I've been very surprised on how people have interpreted (or MISinterpreted) our tunes. some are so outside of what we planed, we were sure it was a personal bias - others gave me pause to think if we added something there that we totally missed in a new context. In any case, don't stifle your opinion - but traditionally, it's a less caustic group if you want to encourage that tone of writing. Tom

You know what's funny, caravan? I actually thought your submission was exceptional. I don't know you threw something that well-produced together so fast (Basing this on the fact that you're at the top of the list, idk how soon you actually submitted).

You know what's funny, caravan? I actually thought your submission was exceptional. I don't know you threw something that well-produced together so fast (Basing this on the fact that you're at the top of the list, idk how soon you actually submitted). Thank you. The song was written and recorded in about 5 hours. The time difference confuses me - but I think it was posted within 24 hours of the challenge being posted. I spent all last week camping in the Northern Territory, so I had to submit before I left. It was badly mixed - the guitar is swamping the lead vox. I would have fixed that if I had more time. I'm glad you liked it. I have been doing this for about 7 years. My early efforts were appalling. It was the people at Songfight who tore extra arseholes for me in their reviews that told me I needed to get better. I think I am a lot better now. But I still have a long way to go. Actually - I will never forget 2 reviews for the first 2 songs I did for Songfight. My first song, a chap named Richard Wreckdom told me: "Whatever it is within you that makes you want to make music - find it, take it out and kill it".My second song, a Mr Frankie Big Face told me: "I hate every single thing about this song"7 years on - I now know that both of them were 100% correct. I needed to be told how crap I was. I still do.

I needed to be told how crap I was. I still do. I've had that feeling before. I always thought you had to create a lot of crap to get it out of the way, and then the good stuff will finally flow. It's just a rumor, but there is a grain of truth to it. Most of my early stuff was highly derivative. You do something in this style or that, a 'homage' to an artist you like, etc. You break apart other songs and bits to see WHY you liked them, and how they were constructed. As a result, you end up finding your own voice. You aren't directly copying any longer. You're picking and choosing from your experience to work for that specific project. You start to instinctively go in the direction you were meant to without thinking. Of course, that's when it starts to get boring for you, and you screw it up by mucking it all up. But that's when you hopefully find the sweet spot and get something listenable out of it. I've been doing production 25 years as BYD this month. If time permits, there's gonna be a lot of crap released in the next 6 months from the archives. And I've learned one thing. I have no clue what the hell I'm doing, but if it's fun, I'll probably go in that direction. And I'll drag my friends along for the ride. Kudos to Al and Chris for not complaining about it being bumpy. Keep it down back there, or I'll tighten the restraints again.

Man that was close! Menage a Tune had been beating/equal to Orion Sound for 3 days, when suddenly they went from 4 behind to 4 in front of us! OK, I have relatives, I have a cell phone- so the calls started ringing out. But wait- THEY had hidden reserves of votes also! Over and over I would reach his total only to be left behind by one or two votes, until the final result- Menage a Tune 37, The Orion Sound 39. Well played, sir. Just wait till the NEXT round!

Thanks to all for the reviews. Denise is a pro, but I'm new to the game. Therefore, I really appreciate the criticism. I am so glad you all liked my vox. I wouldn't have sounded nearly as good without Den's master mixing skills and amazing instrumentals. I am all to blame for the lyrics. I will be better for next round if I get the chance. You did good. You improve tremendously each time and are really gung-ho and enthusiastic. I didn't have to do much and you were spot on pitch. You made things easy. The more you practice - the better you get with structure and content and all that stuff. I kind of liked this plot-wise because there really isn't much else our character had to say (set to the background of the "shopping mall vibraphones") except "Later, F#$*kers" ... so I was okay with all that. Nice cherry cheesecake smile on the face, sashay out the door. I giggled while mixing this and each cheesy solo I made pleased me immensely. Thanks for the reviews. Sorry I'm so late reading all this. I've been silly-busy. These songs are GREAT! I may do some late-to-the-game reviews. What a great playing field. There wasn't a one bad song in the batch. I'm not just being polite, as you know I judged and I can scowl if I need to.
